The Breastfeeding Resource Center is the areas only resource for pregnant and nursing mothers that offers a variety of services and support programs to make breastfeeding work for moms and families.
Our personalized services include:
Free telephone counseling: Every mother has questions about breastfeeding her baby. It's only natural. Lactation Consultants are available by phone 9 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. Monday - Friday to answer your breastfeeding questions. There is no question you should ever feel uncomfortable asking. If our consultants are busy assisting another mom, please leave a message and someone will return your call as soon as possible. (309) 683-6672. If you have breastfeeding questions outside our normal business hours, please call 1-888-6-ASK-OSF and a nurse will try to help.
Office appointments with a lactation consultant - For those moms needing more personalized attention, individual office visits can be scheduled with a lactation consultant. Office visits focus on several areas:
Feeding evaluation - These visits are for both mom and baby and usually occur before baby is a week old. Appointments last approximately one hour. During this evaluation you should bring any breastfeeding aids you are currently using. You will be encouraged to feed the baby in our private office setting and our lactation consultants will help you find a solution to your breastfeeding difficulty and develop a feeding plan. Breastfeeding problems are not uncommon and with the right resources can be easily corrected.Mom only visits - these visits are much shorter and provide a personalized approach to answering your breastfeeding questions. A breast exam may also take place.
Pregnant moms - Pregnant moms are encouraged to schedule a 30-minute visit with our lactation consultants during your last trimester of pregnancy. The lactation consultant will answer any breastfeeding questions you have prior to the baby's arrival. Once your baby is born, our lactation consultants will continue to be a source of support for your breastfeeding questions for months to come.Breast pump rentals - Should your situation require the use of an electric breast pump, the Breastfeeding Resource Center has pumps available for a nominal rental fee. Please contact the center for pricing information and availability.
Maternity/Nursing bra fittings - Expert bra fitting is available at the Breastfeeding Resource Center. This fitting can be done while still pregnant. If you choose to wait until after the baby is born to have a fitting, please wait a week or so to allow your breasts to "settle in" to their productive size before scheduling your fitting. We have the areas widest range of sizes for nursing bras. Appointments are recommended.
A full line of breastfeeding accessories and supplies - The Breastfeeding Resource Center has the areas widest selection of parts for Medela breast pumps available. Stop in or make an appointment.
Breastfeeding support groups - Having a baby is a huge change. Going to a supportive place to relax and be with other new moms is a great way to enjoy this change. The moms who have older babies can help you know what to expect. As the weeks go by, you will find yourself helping other new moms. Moms and Infants Breastfeeding Support Group is held every Wednesday from 12 noon - 2 p.m. at OSF Center for Health - Glen Park, Lower Level Conference Room 5114 N Glen Park Place, Peoria, IL 61614 Map & Directions). The session is lead by a lactation consultant.
